Cardano and its cryptocurrency ADA has since its start been the centre of a lot of interest in the crypto space.

And if you have invested in Cardano, or thinking about buying it and you are looking for the best Cardano wallets to use then you are the right place.

I myself have invested in ADA and I’ve also been on the look for wallet options for my ADA tokens.

Cardano is fairly famous in the crypto space, for having a former co-founder of Ethereum, Charles Hoskinson as its founder. It being another blockchain platform is another and Etherem-challenger a third.

So I can understand the reasons for the interest in investing in ADA, following the future of Cardano and of course find the best ADA wallet to use.

9 popular cryptocurrency wallets for Cardano ADA

In this article, I will do my best to share my thoughts on what wallets to use for Cardano and ADA. I have tried some different wallets out and looked into a range of cryptocurrency wallets for ADA.

Based on providing our readers with some different choices for wallets.

For example best mobile wallets for Cardano, best hardware wallets, desktop wallets or other cold storage options.

1 ) Ledger Nano S (hardware wallet)

Ledger Nano S an excellent choice for storing your Litecoins

This popular hardware device from the French crypto company Ledger has been around for a couple of years now and it together with the Trezor devices are one of the most popular devices amongst holders.

And it can be used in conjunction with Cardano and ADA.

To use Ledger Nano S and Cardano you need to use your Ledger device in combination with another third-party application like Yoroi wallet, AdaLite or Magnum wallet.

The steps to add ADA to your Ledger Nano S would be:

  1. Install the ADA app on your Ledger device
  2. Set up a new wallet with Yoroi, AdaLite or Magnum and get a wallet address
  3. Send your ADAs to that wallet address and that’s it

2 ) Ledger Nano X (hardware wallet)

Ledger Nano X

This is the new and upgraded cryptocurrency wallet from Ledger. It comes with additional storage space and mobile device-enabled through its Bluetooth feature.

Otherwise than that it is the same reliable and safe crypto wallet to use.

The Ledger Nano X can be used with Cardano similar to the model Nano S. You have to use the 3rd party applications to be able to interact with your tokens.

But otherwise than that your ADA is safely stored on the keys provided by the Ledger device. And you can make use of its strong security features.

So when it comes to picking the best Cardano wallet I believe either of these two Ledger devices would be an excellent choice!

Please check the guides from Yoroi, AdaLite or Magnum wallet for additional support in setting it up.

You can’t at this point use Ledger Live to interact with your Adas directly (as far as I’m aware).

3 ) Trezor Model T (hardware wallet)

Trezor Model T

This is the other well-known brand of hardware wallets that you could use to protect your tokens in a safe environment.

Both the model T and One are very popular amongst crypto traders and holders. As far as I’m aware you can only used the Trezor Model T with Cardano at this stage. There have been reports of support for the One being added but nothing has been confirmed from the Trezor team yet.

The Model T is slightly pricier than the One, but it comes with additional cryptocurrency support, a touchscreen, and upgraded casing.

And of course with all the other well-known security features that made Trezor wallets so popular.

Created by SatoshiLabs and the first hardware wallets for the crypto industry.

Similar to the Ledger devices you need to use a 3rd party application to set up your ADA wallet with Trezor and interact with your tokens.

You can use AdaLite or Yoroi with Trezor to sort this out.

4 ) Daedalus wallet (desktop wallet)

DAEDALUS the official Cardano wallet

This is the official wallet of Cardano, or at least it is the wallet that is officially supported by IOHK – the Cardano foundation. So you can be sure that this is one of the best Cardano wallets to choose from.

The Daedalus wallet is at this time only a desktop wallet, and it is available for macOS, Windows and Linux.

It is completely open-source and of course a non-custodial wallet, so you are in control of your private keys and full access to your ADAs.

And this wallet will most likely be one of the first wallets to add support for the upcoming staking addition to Cardano.

Daedalus aims to be a wallet with rich support for 3rd party plugins and others to build on it. So when picking a good crypto wallet I’d recommend picking one with lots of features and use cases, but also the promise of being a good long term pick.

Which this wallet feels like.

5 ) Infinito Wallet (mobile wallet)

Infinito Wallet mobile Cardano wallet

This is one of 3 Cardano-supported wallets to pick from (the other being Yoroi and Daedalus).

So when it comes to picking the best iOS Cardano wallet or Android Cardano wallet Infinito should be on your top pick list.

Infinito is actually a multi-currency wallet, so you can use it with several other popular cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, ETH, EOS, Tron, Stellar, etc).

With strong security features (multiple authentications and privacy layers, fingerprint and password protection and rigorous security audits) at the centre of focus for Infinito, combined with support for additional DApps and 3rd party applications making this a very handy wallet.

6 ) Yoroi wallet (web and mobile wallet)

Yoroi Cardano web and mobile wallet

Yoroi is one of the recommended wallets from the Cardano foundation (IOHK) and it is a light-weight wallet with full support for Cardano.

It is very much a wallet that will fully be integrated with Cardano’s developments over time. Including staking, node upgrades but it also has its own unique features added to make it all a complete user experience.

Overall it is one of the nicest looking and feature-rich wallets available for ADA. With a strong team behind it.

It is available as a web wallet (browser version available for Chrome and Firefox) and mobile wallet, ADA iOS and Android version.

Yoroi wallet is also one of the wallets that has support for the hardware wallets. So you can use it together with your Trezor or Ledger devices. It like AdaLite is actually necessary in order for you to enjoy the benefits of a secure hardware wallet.

7) AdaLite wallet (web wallet)

AdaLite Cardano web wallet

AdaLite, or CardanoLite is a Cardano web wallet interface. We have mentioned here before in the text as a wallet interface that you could use with your Trezor or Ledger devices.

Basically AdaLite is a web interface that lets you both connect with other devices or wallet applications but also create your own wallet.

You can access your wallet via AdaLite with your hardware device, with a seed passphrase or encrypted key file.

AdaLite also supports staking which is very handy for Cardano’s upcoming Shelley release.

AdaLite is developed by Vaccumlabs and it is completely open-source, so feel free to check out the code at any time.

8 ) Guarda Wallet (Web Wallet, Desktop Wallet, Mobile Wallet and Chrome Extension)

Guarda Wallet for Stellar Lumens (mobile + desktop wallet + Chrome Extension

Guarda Wallet is a multicurrency and multiplatform wallet. And it could be a great choice for all ADA holders, but also using it with your other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ether, Ripple, etc.

You can also use Guarda combined with Ledger to enhance the security and protection of your coins and tokens.

Guarda is available as a Web Wallet, Desktop Wallet (macOS, Windows and Linux), Mobile Wallet (Android + iOS) and a Chrome Extension.

We definitely think Guarda should be considered as a good wallet for Cardano, but also for your other cryptocurrencies.

9 ) Atomic wallet (mobile and desktop wallet)

Atomic Cardano wallet for mobile and desktop

Now, this (Atomic wallet) is another multi-currency wallet that is very popular amongst crypto traders.

And that is because it is a secure wallet where you have full control of your private keys. It also comes packed with nice features and it looks very good. And lastly, because it has very wide support for many different cryptocurrencies.

So it can easily be your one and only crypto wallet.

The Atomic Cardano wallet is available for desktop (Windows, macOS and Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora) and mobile (iOS and Android – Google Play and a downloadable APK 6.0+).

What is Cardano?

What is Cardano website screenshot

For those of you who ended up here without that much knowledge about what Cardano is and its cryptocurrency ADA is for. Then I thought I’d give you a very brief introduction.

Cardano like Ethereum, EOS, Neo and others is a blockchain platform or ecosystem.

It is an open-source project with smart contracts technology-enabled. It is a protocol on which others can start building new decentralised products and services.

It is a Proof of Stake blockchain (learn more about staking).

And Ada the cryptocurrency of Cardano is used for certain value rights on the Cardano network. Voting rights, treasure rights, etc.

It can be used for anything on the network really, up to the developers and builders on Cardano, and it can, of course, be used to transfer value between different parties.

Which wallet should I choose for Cardano?

Best Cardano wallets to use

I wanted to highlight a very important question here before I mention some of the popular Ada wallets. And that is to make sure you are doing your best to properly secure your ADA tokens.

And that means taking extra measures to keep your tokens protected from hacks, thefts and other risks.

So how can I do that you might ask? Well first off I believe you should be in control of your own wallet and cryptos.

Make sense right? You wouldn’t want someone else to have access to your bank account so why would you want someone else to have access to your cryptocurrency wallet?

  • That means owning your own private keys and not sharing them with others = don’t store your cryptos on an exchange or custodial wallets
  • Don’t put your tokens to unnecessary risks = avoid using the wallet in online mode, or on devices that are not your own
  • Always update your wallet, devices and first and foremost keep a backup (or several) of your private keys

Other important aspects to consider are:

  • How easy to use is it and user-friendly
  • Can you use it for several cryptos or only ADA?
  • What type of wallet is it – mobile, web, desktop, hardware? And what is important to you?

Conclusion

I hope that this guide to some of the best Cardano wallets to use in 2020 was helpful!

When it comes to selecting the best wallet I tend to go after:

  • How secure it is – the most important thing for me
  • How easy to use it
  • Can I use it with more than one cryptocurrency

Based on those things I have gone for a Ledger wallet. And I feel most comfortable with it. But the Trezor Model T would also do a good job.

I don’t really need a mobile wallet and to check on my cryptos all the time. Since I don’t trade that often and I wouldn’t want to worry about losing my wallet. But choose the wallet that suits you the best!

If there is anything that you wanted to ask about then feel free to leave a comment and I will get back to you. Either about choosing a good wallet for ADA. Or how you can buy ADA, or anything else for that matter.

I’m happy to help 😉
